Being a reporter, a lot of cops knew Mary Fertile. She was in and out of the police station, either in trouble or, reporting or getting news about something her company wanted to broadcast.

At hearing the helicopter approaching from the sky, Hanz as well as the others started to peer down the hall at the front lot. They saw the fire and sulfur shimmering upon the posted flares guiding the helicopter down to their destined area. The helicopters main rotor was blowing debris up like a gloomy cloud, the smoke was even rolling into the interior of the zoo. The only thing they could see at this point was paramedics brisk walking across this, polluted somber sunset'ish scene, that seemed to vibe its own genre of horror and depression.

"I want to know who's in charge here!" declared Officer Haast.
"Are you?"
"I am," Lucas answered.
"Okay, good, answer the first... question," Haast told him intimidatingly.
"Where is this animal?"
"It was a lion, about three years old. Somebody must have taken him," Lucas stated, rather bluntly.
"Took him? Right! I suppose Haast's Eagle came out of the sky and just took him. And who would that make me out to be? Huh, Julius Von Haast?

This retort had Lucas confused. But laughing in his mind. It sounded crazy, he knew that.

Trevor Haast is now a strong officer of the law, but was formally a geek in school, with a very criticizable last name. Though, Lucas and Haast didn't know each other, they went to the same high school together and they both remembered that.

Back then, Haast was always accused! of making stuff up and seeing things and trying to convince people that something fake was proof of what he asserted. To put him into a rather modern perspective, Trevor Haast was looked upon like was, Galileo Galilei.

There was a big difference between him and his fellow students about what was logical (i.e. common) and what was scientific (i.e. proof). And after all that, he thought that all those trifling trialing years would make him a good cop.

The four keepers just stood there looking at him. Trevor stood about 5,7, with broad shoulders and disheveled red hair. To hear Haast's erupting voice was one thing, but to see him, quite another.

'He never did look like a happy camper,' Lucas thought to himself, in between him  debriefing his mind on everything that had recently happened in the last couple nights.

After Lucas saw Mary's body inside of the black lion's habitat, with no lion, a ladder up against the outer bars and ajar door leading out of it, he didn't know what to say. He couldn't explain what he couldn't understand.

Trevor turned to his partner Chaney and said, "Okay, I guess we should check the perimeter and its vicinity for, well, a lion."
"Yes!" Chaney affirmed.

Haast Eagle was twice the size of the Harpy Eagle!!!
It stood 6 ft tall, with about 14 ft wingspan, and it
weighed about 40 lbs. It is said to have been the
largest eagle to FLY. Julius Von Haast was the first
to study its bones.  Click to see The Harpy Eagle
